Signing of
Pilot Cards & Other Documentation
Adopted at the
XVth IMPA Congress of the
International Maritime Pilots’
Association
5 May 2000
Recognising the increasing number of requests made by
Masters to pilots for their signature on the pilot card and/or other
documentation.
Bearing in mind the increasing demands
on Masters for documentation to comply with ISM certification.
Noting the possible legal implications of a Pilot signing a
document which may be in an unfamiliar language.
Further
Noting that there is no IMO requirement or recommendation that
any Pilot should sign a Pilot Card
Be it Resolved that
IMPA considers that there is no valid reason for pilots to be
required to sign a Pilot Card and/or other documentation.

Visto
el
creciente número de pedidos hechos por los capitanes a los prácticos
para que firmen la pilot card u otra documentación.
Teniendo en cuenta los
crecientes requerimientos a los capitanes para cumplir con la
certificación ISM.
Notando las posibles
implicaciones legales para un práctico al firmar un documento que
puede estar en un lenguaje que no le es familiar.
Destacando además que no
hay ningún requerimiento o recomendación de IMO respecto de que un
práctico deba firmar una Pilot Card.
Se resuelve que IMPA considera que no hay razón válida para
que se requiera a un práctico la firma de una pilot
card y/u otra documentación.
