Modern survey systems are capable of collecting huge amounts of bathymetric data in a short time with very high accuracy. This allows the production of high precision ENCs containing depth contours at sub-metre or decimetre intervals. New bathymetric data can be made available on a much shorter notice than the standard ENCs are produced or updated. These data can be converted into S-57 format to be incorporated in an ENC and displayed in conjunction with other ENC data carried by the vessels. These amendments can be carried out with the minimal effort.
